The historic Burlington Arcade, described as the ‘jewel of Mayfair’, is set to celebrate London Craft Week (30th September – 10th October) by becoming a centre point for visitors to celebrate outstanding British and international creativity. Home to many prestigious luxury boutiques, Burlington Arcade offers an eclectic, quirky mix of prestigious jewellery, watches, macaroons, wine, food, swimwear, leather and cashmere that gives Burlington Arcade such a quintessentially British feel. For the first time, two of Burlington Arcade’s iconic residents, Globe-Trotter and Lalique, will participate in London Craft Week. Lalique will offer a virtual live discussion, whilst Globe-Trotter will partner with a historical italian fabric mill to transform its store from boutique to gallery space.

A celebrated resident of Burlington Arcade, Globe-Trotter, will collaborate with Vitale Barberis Canonico, one of Italy’s oldest fabric mills. In the midst of Mayfair, visitors can admire the collaborative outcome of two heritage brands, both celebrated for their intricate and time-honoured craftsmanship skills which have remained unchanged for 120 years. The collaboration will introduce a set of bespoke luggage cases covered in Vitale Barberis Canonico’s H.O.P.E fabrics – their latest sustainable fabric range. H.O.P.E. (acronym of How to Optimise People and Environment) demonstrates that a sustainable line of fabrics can be created using natural recycled fibres or plant fibres without surrendering quality. The choice of fabric perfectly complements Globe-Trotter’s ethos; of producing long-lasting luggage which doesn’t compromise its much-loved design that remains iconic to this day. The collaborative results of the two heritage brands will be proudly on display at the Globe-Trotter flagship store during London Craft Week.

Burlington Arcade’s resident, Lalique – the ultimate symbol of French luxury – will celebrate 100 years of Rene Lalique’s Villa by hosting a live-streamed discussion with antiques expert and TV personality Eric Knowles, Lalique UK’s Managing Director Frederick Fischer and Country & Townhouse’s Interiors Editor, Carole Annett. The ticketed virtual event entitled, Lalique: The Jewel of the French Crystal Industry, It’s History and Impact on Art Deco, will send a Lalique champagne glass from the new AW 2020 collection and a bottle of Lalique champagne for its audience to sample during the conversation.

Burlington Arcade will also provide a platform for unique international craft by partnering with Future Icons. Future Icons represents a select collection of design and craft led businesses that produce the finest interior accessories, furniture, metalworks, textiles and objet d’art internationally. During London Craft Week, Future Icons will present 14 key craft practitioners across two levels in a beautiful boutique retail unit in Burlington Arcade. Offering home accessories, jewellery furniture and wall-based artworks, Future Icons’ makers have created collections from wood, metal, ceramics, textiles and leather. In continuing to create an experiential experience at Burlington Arcade, visitors are welcomed by Future Icons to pre book private appointments to meet its artists and makers on show. Within this 1-hour appointment, visitors will learn more about how the artworks have been crafted, the inspirations for the collections as well as a chance to handle works and samples.

Highlights include Clare Coles’ Traces of Flora, a range of artworks in response to the new way of life we are experiencing; Judy McKenzie’s Comforting Skies, handmade one-off porcelain vessels and platters that are inspired by Lockdown Skies; Kate Lewis’ The News Pressed: The Bees, 100 Bees made from collaged global newspapers that celebrate the coming out of Lockdown; Kevin Stamper’s Trinket Boxes, little handmade, geometric and organic marquetry designed wooden trinket boxes inspired by Miro and Matisse; Louise Heighs’ Wild Flower, a selection of leather wild flowers inspired by the wild flowers blooming during Lockdown; and Zeinhab Harding’s Rebirth, a mesmerising piece on the Acanthus leaf which plays with ornament and shape.
